The Changeover Weekend on the Palmer Ranch Corridor: From Halloween to November's First Mornings

This is the weekend the Gulf Coast flips its clocks and, honestly, its whole rhythm. Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 1, which means the Palmer Ranch corridor wakes up to an extra golden hour on the trail and the sun starts setting earlier over the preserve. Combined with the season arriving in earnest, it is the clearest changeover weekend of the year. Here is what I am watching on the corridor as November opens.

The Trail Gets Its Golden Hour Back

The first thing that changes is simply the light. With the clocks back, mornings on the Legacy Trail start bright and soft, which is the best window of the year for a long walk, a bike ride along the water or a run before the day heats up. The trail runs end to end through the corridor now, connecting Palmer Ranch to downtown and the bayfront, and November mornings are when it is at its most beautiful. I have been sending every touring client out for a morning lap before we look at homes, because it is the fastest way to understand the lifestyle.

The Pump Track’s Home Stretch

The pump track and skate facility at Scherer Thaxton Preserve is in its final construction weeks, still pacing for that year-end debut. Once it opens, it joins the preserve’s trail network right off the Legacy Trail and gives the corridor its first purpose-built facility for bikes and boards in a public preserve setting. Every community update I have written this fall has counted down to this one, and the finished facility is genuinely close.

SSQ Keeps Pacing

Across the trail at the former Sarasota Square, the SSQ redevelopment continues to build momentum. The first residential step, a 355-unit apartment complex, is visible rising from the lot, while Phase 1 with the Whole Foods Market anchor sits around 88 percent pre-leased, joined by HomeSense, Chipotle, CAVA and Warby Parker. Restaurants are expected to begin opening early in 2027, and a new grocery store is planned across the trail. It remains one of the biggest reasons buyers are touring the corridor now instead of waiting for the season to peak.

November’s First Full Calendar

The season’s first big calendar lands right behind Halloween. The Sarasota Medieval Fair opens Saturday, November 7 at the Woods of Mallaranny at Mallaranny Farms in Myakka City, running every weekend through early December with jousting, artisan vendors and themed weekends. The Living Arts Festival follows the week of November 8 through 15, opening Sunday the 8th with the Harmony & Hue celebration at the Art Ovation Hotel and a Sarasota Orchestra concert at the Van Wezel. Add the Siesta Key Crystal Classic sand festival November 13 through 16, and the corridor has a month of reasons to get out.

The market rhythm is holding steady through it all: Phillippi Farmhouse Market on Wednesdays along the Legacy Trail, the Central Sarasota Farmers Market on Beneva Road every Saturday, and the new Farmers’ Market at Lakewood Ranch at Waterside Place on Sundays through December 28. If you are coming to research the move, this is the perfect weekend to feel the corridor at its best: the season arriving, the construction stories visible and the mornings glowing. Reach out and I will set up a tour day built around what you want to see, from new construction at Talon Preserve to a trail walk and a market close.
