Welcome to August on the Palmer Ranch corridor. The summer is in full swing, and there is a lot happening worth knowing about. The Taste of the Ranch culinary event wraps up its final weekend at Waterside Place, Music on Main returns on August 7 with Ya Ya & The Diamond Chasers, Sarasota Square's mixed-use transformation is in its final phase, and the summer market is showing measured activity that has me optimistic about the fall ahead. Here is what I am watching this week.
Taste of the Ranch: Last Call at Waterside Place
If you have been meaning to check out A Taste of the Ranch at Waterside Place, this weekend is your last chance. The event wraps up on Saturday, August 1. Sixteen-plus restaurants are offering prix-fixe menus: two-course brunch or lunch for $25, and three-course dinner for $45. It is an incredible deal and a wonderful way to sample what the Lakewood Ranch dining scene has to offer.
Waterside Place has become a true gathering spot for the University Parkway corridor. The plaza features a large green lawn with a fountain, shaded walkways, and outdoor seating at several restaurants. It is about 15 minutes from most Palmer Ranch neighborhoods up University Parkway. I have been a few times during the event and the food has been excellent across the board. If you have not made it out yet, grab brunch this weekend and see what the buzz is about.
Music on Main Returns August 7
Looking ahead to next Friday, Music on Main returns to Main Street Lakewood Ranch on August 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is the monthly free street party that closes Main Street to traffic and fills it with live music, food vendors, and the whole community. This month features Ya Ya & The Diamond Chasers, a high-energy band that will have everyone dancing in the street.
Music on Main is one of my favorite recurring events on the corridor. It benefits HOPE Family Services, and the atmosphere is genuinely joyful. Bring a lawn chair, grab dinner from one of the food trucks, and enjoy a summer evening under the stars. It is a quick 15-minute drive from Palmer Ranch up University Parkway.
Sarasota Square Construction: Final Phase
The transformation of the former Sarasota Square Mall site continues to progress. The Whole Foods anchor tenant is in its final preparation stages, with the grand opening anticipated in the coming weeks. The mixed-use development includes luxury apartments, retail space, and restaurants on the site at the corner of Beneva Road and US 41.
For Palmer Ranch residents, this development is a major lifestyle upgrade. The ability to walk or bike to a Whole Foods, grab dinner at one of the new restaurants, and have retail options within the neighborhood -- all without getting on I-75 -- is a significant quality-of-life improvement. I am hearing from buyers who specifically mention the Sarasota Square redevelopment as a factor in their interest in the corridor. It is one of those developments that changes how a community feels.
Summer Market Pulse
Activity on the Palmer Ranch corridor has settled into a steady summer rhythm. Inventory levels are comfortable, and I am seeing more serious buyer traffic than I expected for August. The fall buying season typically begins to ramp up in late August and September, and the early indicators are positive. Several communities are seeing new listings come to market, which is a good sign for buyers who have been waiting for more options.
