Pickleball is the amenity I get asked about more than almost any other when buyers tour the corridor, so here is good news as the fall season starts: the courts keep multiplying. This summer, Twin Lakes Park finished six brand-new lighted pickleball courts with a shade structure and accessible walkways, joining Potter Park's six lighted courts right inside Palmer Ranch and the six indoor-outdoor courts at the Palmer Ranch YMCA. The fall weather makes this the season to use all of them.
Twin Lakes Park: Six More Lighted Courts
The newest option is at Twin Lakes Park, 5883 Hummingbird Avenue in Sarasota, where the county completed six lighted courts this summer as part of a park improvement project. The courts are open to the public during regular park hours, and the additions came with fencing, a shade structure and easy walkways, so the setup is genuinely comfortable for long sessions. It sits inside a 123-acre park with plenty of other recreation around, which makes it easy to build a whole afternoon there.
Potter Park: Pickleball Right in Palmer Ranch
For residents of the Palmer Ranch communities, Potter Park remains the closest option of all: six lighted pickleball courts opened there in late 2024 as part of a full park renovation, alongside four lighted tennis courts. You can practically walk from the surrounding communities, which is why weekend mornings there move at a good clip. My honest advice is to try a late-afternoon slot first, when the courts are a little quieter and the light through the oaks is at its best.
More Ways to Play Around the Corridor
If you want a weatherproof option, the Palmer Ranch YMCA at 8301 Potter Park Drive keeps six indoor and outdoor courts running, so play continues on rainy days and hot afternoons alike. For buyers comparing communities, pickleball is also very much a design feature now: Talon Preserve and Sunrise Preserve at Palmer Ranch both include courts as part of their amenity packages, so residents have a game literally steps from the front door.
Countywide, Sarasota County now maintains close to a hundred lined outdoor pickleball courts on a first-come basis, with indoor play on the same no-reservation system, and the Sarasota Pickleball Club runs leagues and skill sessions throughout the season. My full rundown of public courts and community facilities, including the ones I recommend for first-timers, is on the pickleball page.
Why Fall Is the Season
This is the time of year the courts go from good to great: crisp mornings, golden evenings, and a social calendar that fills back up as the season arrives. If pickleball is on your must-have list, let's build your community tour around the courts. Reach out and I will show you the options in person.
