When people talk about South Sarasota, they usually mean the corridor that runs from the Palmer Ranch area down toward Venice. But a little further south, tucked along the bay, sits Osprey and The Meadows, the corner of the region I send clients to when they want resort-scale amenities with a quieter, more established rhythm. Here is my late-October update on what this part of the corridor is looking like as the season arrives.
The Meadows: Golf-Course Living on a Human Scale
The Meadows is a master-planned golf and country club community that has anchored this part of Sarasota for decades, and it remains one of the best-value golf addresses in the region. It brings two championship courses, a tennis center, a resort-style community center and miles of walking and biking trails that wind through protected nature preserves. In the cooler morning light of late October, those trails are where the community comes alive, and the preserve views are a big part of why the homes here hold their appeal. There is no gate at the door, so to speak, but the amenities do all the talking.
Just beyond The Meadows, Osprey is home to several gated communities, including The Oaks Club with its golf and club life, and Spanish Main, a boating-oriented waterfront community with deep-water access on Sarasota Bay. The mix of golf, marina and preserve settings in one compact area is unusual, and it means buyers can compare very different lifestyles within a few minutes of one another.
The Trail & the Bayfront Pull Everything Together
The thing that connects this whole corner is the Legacy Trail. It runs right along the corridor, with Phillippi Estate Park at 5500 South Tamiami Trail a favorite launch point, and on fall mornings I see more walkers and riders on it every week as the weather turns. Between the trail, the bayfront and the golf, this is the part of South Sarasota where outdoor life is the whole point. The Phillippi Farmhouse Market keeps its Wednesday slot along the trail through the season, so a market stop and a long walk can share one morning.
As the season's first wave of buyers arrives, touring days in this pocket are filling up, and I have noticed more interest in the golf and preserve-view segments specifically. The late-fall window is a good one to look here, because the homes show beautifully in the low light and the trail network is at its most inviting. I cover the wider golf picture in my golf guide, and my relocation guide walks through how to weigh these South Sarasota communities against the rest of the corridor.
If you are coming down to research the move, I would set aside a morning for this corner alone: a walk or ride on the trail, a lap through The Meadows, a look at the bayfront communities, and a market stop on the way home. Reach out and I will put that tour together for you.
