Summer Circus Spectacular Is Back at The Ringling — Here's Why You Need to Go

If you've ever wondered why Sarasota calls itself the "Circus Capital of the World," the Summer Circus Spectacular at The Ringling is the place to find out. This beloved annual tradition kicks off this week at the Historic Asolo Theater, and it's one of those Sarasota experiences that never gets old — no matter how many summers you've spent on the Gulf Coast.

Now in its latest season, the Summer Circus Spectacular is a collaboration between The Ringling and the Circus Arts Conservatory of Sarasota. The performances run from mid-June through early August, with shows typically on Tuesdays through Saturdays. It's intimate, it's impressive, and it's a completely different vibe from the mega-production circus shows you might be picturing.

What to Expect This Year

The 2026 lineup features some truly talented performers. Ashley Vargas serves as ringmaster, guiding audiences through an evening of aerial artistry, comedy, and jaw-dropping skill acts. One of the highlights is Duo Transcend, a husband-and-wife duo who perform a combination of roller skating and trapeze work that's genuinely breathtaking. Clown and slack-wire artist Davis Vassallo brings the laughs, while aerialist Emma Grace Clarke delivers graceful high-flying routines that make the whole theater hold its breath.

The show runs roughly 90 minutes with an intermission, and you can add access to the Circus Museum to your ticket at a discounted rate. I'd recommend it — especially if you haven't been inside the Museum in a while. TheHoward Bros. Circus Model, a massive 44,000-piece miniature circus, is genuinely one of those hidden-gem attractions that surprises visitors.

Why It's Worth the Trip

I've been to the Summer Circus Spectacular more times than I can count, and here's what I love about it: it's a Sarasota tradition that connects you to the history of this place. John Ringling brought the circus to Sarasota in the 1920s, and it shaped the identity of this city in ways that are still felt today — from the Murrary Circus School to the Circus Arts Conservatory to this very show. When you're sitting in the Asolo Theater watching someone hang from a trapeze by their teeth, you're participating in a piece of Sarasota's living history.

And practically speaking? It's a fantastic option for a summer evening out. The Asolo Theater is air-conditioned (a real perk in Florida summers), the ticket prices are reasonable, and it's the kind of experience that works whether you're bringing visiting guests, looking for a date night, or just wanting to do something different on a Tuesday evening.

Getting There from Palmer Ranch

The Ringling is located at 5401 Bay Shore Road on Sarasota's north end — it's about a 25-minute drive from the Palmer Ranch area. I'd suggest making an afternoon of it: arrive early to walk the Ringling Museum grounds and the Bayfront Gardens, grab dinner at one of the restaurants along the waterfront, and then head into the Asolo for the show. The museum is open until 5 PM on most days, and the grounds alone are worth the visit.

Tickets are available through The Ringling's website. I'd recommend booking early — the smaller theater means shows can sell out, especially on weekends.

Whether you're a longtime Sarasota resident or just getting to know the area, the Summer Circus Spectacular is one of those events that reminds you why living on the Gulf Coast is so special. It's culture, history, and entertainment all wrapped into one evening — and it's right in your backyard.

Thinking about making Sarasota your permanent home? Explore Palmer Ranch or reach out to me directly — I'd love to help you find the right fit.
