October just got an even better reason to head downtown. The Bay Park, the waterfront park that runs along Sarasota Bay at 1055 Boulevard of the Arts, turns four this month, and it is celebrating with One Park FOUR All: a full month of more than 70 free events running October 1 through November 1. This is the kind of news I love passing along, because it means nearly every time you point the car toward the bayfront this month, there is something good waiting.
Why The Bay Matters So Much to the Corridor
Since it opened in October 2022, the park has welcomed more than 1.2 million visits, and anyone who walks it can see why. It is a long, open sweep of green lawn, native coastal gardens and boardwalk winding along the water, with a playground for the little ones, kayak and paddleboard launches, and those huge shade sails that make the midday sun feel kinder. For anyone who lives in the Palmer Ranch corridor it is an easy, straight shot up the Tamiami Trail, which makes it my go-to answer when clients ask where to go for a bayfront walk that feels nothing like a mall.
The Month's Signature Evenings
The anniversary lineup anchors around a handful of signature nights, and they are all free:
- Salsa & Sunsets Community Celebration, Wednesday, October 7, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the official 4th anniversary toast with live music and a Latino-inspired dance party as the sun goes down over the bay. Wear comfortable shoes; you will want to move.
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Friday, October 9, 9 to 11 p.m., an outdoor screening under the stars on the park lawn. Costumes encouraged, blankets essential.
- Park-toberfest, Sunday, October 11, 5 to 7 p.m., an Oktoberfest-style celebration with live music right on the water as golden hour arrives.
- Taste of The Bay and the Best of The Bay Music Fest, celebrating the park's food and music scenes with local vendors and bands.
- Family Halloween Celebration, a costume-friendly close to the month, with games and treats on the lawn for the final week of October.
On top of those, the park keeps its everyday rhythm: sunset yoga, free fitness classes on the lawn, bird walks through the mangroves, and the bayfront boardwalk that connects to Marina Jacks at 2 Marina Plaza, where the Blue Sunshine Patio has live music most nights. Park once and you can cover sunset at The Bay, dinner on the patio at Marina Jacks, and a stroll back along the water.
Make a Day of It
My favorite October move is to combine the anniversary month with a proper downtown stop: Saturday morning at the Sarasota Farmers Market on Lemon Avenue, an afternoon wandering the galleries along the arts district, then an evening event at The Bay. If you are researching the area on a visit, it is the fastest crash course in why the Gulf Coast lifestyle sells itself. Reach out and I will help you plan the itinerary, and for the rest of the season's calendar, the Community Events guide is updated all fall.
