October's third full week brings a fresh energy to the corridor: Sarasota Fright Fest opens at the fairgrounds, the Fall American Vintage Market fills Robarts Arena, the harvest festivals keep rolling on the farms, and the season's farmers markets settle into their proper rhythm. Here is what I am pointing my neighbors toward for the week of October 19 through 25.
Fright Fest at the Fairgrounds
If you like your October with a good scare, Sarasota Fright Fest returns to the Sarasota County Fairgrounds and Robarts Arena at 3000 Ringling Boulevard on October 22 through 25, with a second run on October 29 through 31. Haunted houses, live entertainment and a full fairgrounds atmosphere land a short drive up the trail from Palmer Ranch. It is a fun way to let the season build before Halloween weekend takes over.
Vintage Finds & Harvest Weekends
The Sarasota Fall American Vintage Market sets up at Robarts Arena Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, a curated mix of antiques, vintage furniture, handmade goods and local makers under one roof. It pairs beautifully with a market morning downtown: coffee first, then a slow lap through the booths.
Out on the farms, the Dakin Dairy Farms Harvest Festival closes out its run October 18 through 25 east of the corridor with hayrides, farm animals and that working-dairy atmosphere you can't get anywhere else, while the Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Festival at 7410 Fruitville Road keeps its weekend hours at October 24 and 25. A short drive from the corridor, both are the classic "autumn day out" this area does so well.
A New Sunday Market at Lakewood Ranch
One of my favorite new additions this season: the Farmers' Market at Lakewood Ranch, running Sundays from October 18 through December 28 at Waterside Place in Lakewood Ranch, with a hundred-plus vendors on the plaza. It gives the corridor a proper Sunday market, which we didn't really have before. Stroll the stalls, grab a bite at one of the Waterside restaurants, and take a lap around the lake after.
Venice, Concerts & the Week Ahead
The Venice Friday Night Concert Series plays Centennial Park Friday, October 23, with Nick Fiasco on the gazebo the same evening the Venice Witches Walk dresses up downtown, so it is a double-header night on the Avenue. And looking ahead, Ghostbusters in Concert brings the film with live orchestra to the Van Wezel on Thursday, October 29, with the KISS America tribute landing at Encore Live the following night for a Halloween benefit. Tickets for the Van Wezel show go quickly once word gets around.
If you are relocating and wondering which neighborhoods put you closest to this calendar, reach out and I will walk you through the corridor. For now, go enjoy a vintage market, a hayride and a Sunday market you can call your own.
