Gulf Gate Second Friday Festival — Tonight, July 10
If you haven't made it to the Gulf Gate Second Friday Festival, tonight is your chance. This free monthly celebration takes over the Gulf Gate Village commercial district from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with live music, international cuisine from the neighborhood's restaurants, and that wonderfully eclectic village atmosphere that makes Gulf Gate one of Sarasota's most underrated neighborhoods.
Gulf Gate sits just a few minutes south of Palmer Ranch, and the drive over on a summer evening — windows down, warm breeze, palm trees lining the road — is part of the experience. The food scene there is surprisingly diverse for a small village, and Second Fridays bring out local artists and musicians that give the whole corridor a block-party feel. If you're in the area, it's the perfect way to kick off the weekend early.
World Cup Final Countdown — The Bay, July 19
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is down to its final matches, and The Bay waterfront park has been the place to watch it all unfold. Free large-screen broadcasts on the bayfront lawn, food trucks, and that unmistakable community energy — neighbors gathering on blankets as the sun dips toward Sarasota Bay. The Championship Final is Sunday, July 19 at 3:00 p.m., and if the past few weeks are any indication, the lawn will be packed.
Even if soccer isn't your sport, the watch parties are worth experiencing for the atmosphere alone. There's something about watching a global event unfold on a waterfront lawn in Sarasota that makes you realize — this is what living here feels like. Ringling Summer Circus Spectacular — Ongoing Through August 8
The Ringling Summer Circus Spectacular continues at the Historic Asolo Theater on the Ringling Museum campus. This is world-class aerial artistry, comedy, and circus performance — presented in partnership with the Circus Arts Conservatory — and it's one of Sarasota's most unique summer traditions.
Showtimes this week: Tuesday through Friday at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. If you haven't been yet, the combination of the historic theater and the caliber of performers makes this worth a drive from anywhere on the Gulf Coast. Tickets at ringling.org.
Saturday Farmers Markets — July 11 & Sunday, July 12
The farmers market routine is the backbone of summer weekends here:
- Sarasota Farmers Market — Saturday, 7:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., Main Street and Lemon Avenue. Eighty-plus vendors, live acoustic music, and summer produce at its peak. Right now the mangoes, tropical flowers, and local honey are standouts.
- Venice Farmers Market — Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., 401 W. Venice Avenue at City Hall. A great complement to a morning stroll down Venice Avenue.
- Siesta Key Farmers Market — Sunday, 8:00 a.m.–noon, Siesta Key Village. Pair it with a morning walk on Siesta Beach. Even in July, that quartz sand stays cool underfoot.
- Farmers' Market at Lakewood Ranch — Sunday, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., Waterside Place. A newer addition that's growing fast — great for anyone in the Lakewood Ranch corridor.

- "Shared Light: Lynn Goldsmith" — On view at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens through September 13. A stunning photographic exhibition set among the gardens — worth a visit even if you've been to Selby before.
- "Abstract Horizons" — New exhibition at Milan Art Gallery, 80 S. Palm Avenue, running July 10–24. Downtown Sarasota's gallery scene stays active all summer.
- Florida Studio Theatre — "Leaving on a Jet Plane: A Folk Journey" (Goldstein Cabaret, extended through July 26), "Dog Mom" (Court Cabaret, through September 13), and the new Comedy Lottery improv show (Bowne's Lab, July 11–25). There's always something happening at FST.
